Miwa and Saeko struggle with same-sex obsessions

Both Miwa and Saeko are queer women and find it reassuring to meet a lesbian. However, their relationships are challenged by the same-sex obsessions of their partners. The following excerpts from the anime show illustrate the challenges that each woman and man faces. It is important to remember that no relationship is perfect and that each person must be committed to make it work.

As adolescents, both Miwa and Saeko are attracted to girls, but they are shy about admitting their feelings to others. While she’s popular with her band mates, Miwa is embarrassed when boys ask her out because she isn’t sure how to say no. But when Saeko steps in and rescues her from an awkward situation, she asks her friend Saeko about her love life and she is surprised to learn that she is into guys as well.

When Miwa and Saeko start dating, they’re both on guard, and they have trouble establishing a relationship with each other. Their friendship is strained by the fact that Saeko has had bad experiences with other people because of her sexuality. Miwa, on the other hand, has never dated anyone before. As a result, she’s scared to get too intimate with Saeko, even though it’s her first time. She has a secret that she wants to keep from Saeko, but is hesitant to tell her.

Saeko’s ravenous libido

Saeko is a young woman with a ravenous libido, who lives with her grandmother near a red bridge. She is a kleptomaniac and suffers from a condition called inability to hold water. Despite the physical symptoms of her ravenous libido, Saeko remains determined to satiate her desires. However, her sexuality sabotages her relationship with Yosuke.

In How Do We Relationship?, Saeko struggles with lesbophobia and downplays her relationship with her bandmate, Miwa. She faced lesbophobia during her early years of middle school, forcing herself to have sex with a boy. Saeko’s internalized lesbophobia still manifests itself in self-deprecation. While Miwa is accepting of her relationship with Saeko, they still have a long way to go. The movie contains themes of transphobia and transmisogyny, and has content warnings.

Miwa’s seemingly ravenous libido

How Do We Relationship? is a romantic comedy about two new college students. Miwa is shy and afraid to make a move on anyone she likes, while Saeko is confident and has a lot of experience with both boys and girls during her high school years. Saeko suggests that they meet other women to see how they react to them. Miwa is initially unimpressed, but eventually changes her mind.
